The Doc Watson Endowment for Appalachian Studies at Appalachian State University provides opportunities for Appalachian Music students to work with expert practitioners in the field, and it brings Appalachian musicians and scholars to our campus. Students are able to document, celebrate, and study the contributions of Appalachian musicians adding to a growing body of knowledge of the diverse musical traditions that intersect in Appalachia.
Doc Watson has shared his love of music with his community--at home and across the nation. The Doc Watson Endowment for Appalachian Studies at Appalachian State University celebrates that music and honors his contributions to the region. Doc has endorsed our fundraising efforts to preserve and enrich our musical heritage.

Several years ago, Appalachian State University's Center for Appalachian Studies, Appalachian Cultural Museum, and W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection--an invaluable repository of regional fiction, folklore, history and music--was awarded a challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Their long-term goal has been to raise $1.2 million to support the Appalachian Studies curriculum, collections, research and outreach. The final $300,000 is focused on the Doc Watson Endowment for Appalachian Studies.
Your gift or pledge for the Doc Watson Endowment for Appalachian Studies will help the University obtain matching government support from the NEH. This support will enable the Center for Appalachian Studies and the W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection to strengthen their coordinated efforts to facilitate and promote a greater understanding of Appalachian music.
